Sports for a Cause

June was a month dedicated to sports activities in the name of charity and community spirit

Our business community came together once again to participate in enjoyable social events while helping important causes.

On Friday 14th June, 40 company teams of 4 members gathered at Hove Lagoon for the Speedee Boarding Charity Tournament, where novice and experienced racers alike paddled to raise funds for 40 local charities. Organised by entrepreneur and adventurer Neil Laughton and sponsored by Rubix VT and Oakley Property, the “world’s greatest SUP paddle boarding relay racing tournament” returned for a 2024 edition in Hove. Each team donated a minimum of £500 to a local Sussex charity of their choice.

One week later, on Thursday 20th June, Rubix sent its managing director, Nick Poyner, and marketing director, Ian Trevett, to Portslade Bowls Club to play in the Search Seven Bowls Battle as captain and vice-captain for team Business against team Agency, led by Matt Smith from Webtrends Optimize. Congratulations to Matt and his team Agency for taking the trophy home! Together we were able to raise £3,500 for charity, shared between Portslade Bowls Club and Search Seven’s #share177 charity campaign, which supports some amazing charities.

It’s days like these – filled with joy, excitement, friendly competition, and giving back – that make doing business worth it. To cite Gavin Willis: “A business shouldn’t just be good, but they should do good.“. We couldn’t agree more!
